Batman V Superman: 11 Biggest Rumours You Need To Know (Nov 12)

1. Lex Luthor Is A Kryptonian

The question of Lex Luthor's new image has been a big one in the pre-release marketing for Batman V Superman. The in-universe background marketing went heavy on his biography and building up the mythos of the character, and while it's inevitable that there will be elements of the old Luthor (and probably Eisenberg's version of mark Zuckerberg too) the key message is he's definitely different. Within that material - particularly the Fortune interview with Luthor - there are some very deliberate turns of phrase that seem to spell out a very specific type of difference. Phrases like "a superhuman feat", "down-to-Earth", "the prodigal son", "a man of tomorrow" and mention of world-changing technology all seem to have been carefully chosen to paint a picture. And that picture is that Luthor is a son of Krypton. Rating: 8/10 The franchise appears to be all about reinvention, so this would be exactly the kind of theory that would fit the bill. Plus, Warner Bros have a habit of returning to rejected comic book movie pitches, and the Kryptonian twist was peddled for Superman Flyby, so it wouldn't exactly be unprecedented. And if the evidence suggested isn't compelling enough for you, check out the eloquently phrased breakdown by Film Editor Alex Leadbeater here.
