Batman V Superman: 10 Reasons Man Of Steel Is Better
3. The Emotion Actually Feels Earned
Say what you want about Superman killing Zod, but it was a moment that sucked the air out of the cinema (for better or worse depending on your opinion). It had major emotional impact and when Superman let out of a cry of anguish, we could at least identify with his agony. Similarly, though Jonathan Kent's death didn't work for all audiences, Clark's reaction to it added emotional depth to the character.
Batman v Superman has a number of potentially emotive moments that sadly fall totally flat. For one, there's the romantic moments between Lois and Clark (which are more corny than anything), the cringe-worthy moment of recognition when Batman and Superman realise their mothers have the same names (and this brings the battle to an end), and of course, Superman's "death".
The latter moment is the most disingenuous, because it attempts to make a morbid, tear-jerking parade out of something so hilariously transparent: we know that Clark will be back in the Superman suit no more than 20 or 30 minutes into Justice League Part One, so giving him a fake-out death has zero meaning or emotional impact to even the most casual viewer. Man of Steel was positively visceral by comparison.
