Batman V Superman: 3 Reasons Why The Trailer Teaser Sucks (And 1 Why It's Awesome)
The Reasons Why It Sucks:
3. It's A Dream Sequence
Oh my stars - Superman and his army have captured Batman and now the Kryptonian has just unmasked the Caped Crusader as Bruce Wayne. Wow. This is going to be big. Who knows what's going to happen next? Well, we kinda do actually - Bruce will wake up. Ever since this sequence, which features a desert-geared Batman taking on some of Superman's troops (possibly snapping one of their necks) as well as this unmasking moment, first appeared in the Comic-Con trailer it's been presumed, from its odd lighting and general far-out events, that it's all a dream; a theory that was all but confirmed when it was revealed the toy Batman based on the scene is called Knightmare Batman. Terrible pun for sure, but pretty resolute. Typically teasers work by making you want to find out what happens next, but with a dream sequence that's all undermined; on top of being inevitably cut short, what we're seeing is unconfined by the rules of the film world. It's misleading and really only ensures the audience will feel cheated. Avengers: Age Of Ultron likewise marketed itself on some unreal moments - chiefly the beating of the Avengers and destruction of Captain America's shield - and all that did was leave a bitter taste in everyone's mouth.
