4. It's A Huge Summer Blockbuster With A March Release Date
Warner Bros. have chosen to release Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016, having changed it from its original release date - May 6, 2016 - in order to "give the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story." In other words, Warner Bros. got scared of the competition and changed the release date accordingly. Captain America: Civil War - a similarly-themed superhero fight film - is set for release on May 6, 2016, after all, and despite the studio's insistence that the swap was made for creative reasons, it just doesn't ring true at all. Somebody in head office obviously decided that it would be unwise to go head-to-head with a big Marvel property. But that means Batman v Superman, a movie that has been designed as something akin to the "ultimate summer blockbuster," won't get a release in the summer. March is often thought to be one of the lesser months in terms of movie releases, and unveiling something as huge as Batman v Superman right in the midst of a dead zone could really harm the film's box office potential. It's a strange and risky move on the behalf of the studio, for sure.
