Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Review - I Told You It Was Going To Be Rubbish

Zack Snyder came on stage before the UK FDA screening and asked everyone there to not spoil the movie. All jokes about the marketing aside, I want to make clear I am making an effort to avoid spoiling the film not out of respect for him or his sorry excuse of a blockbuster, but because I respect you too much - regardless of what you think of my opinion - to do so.

You see, I'm like you. I'm a fan. A fan of movies, a fan of superheroes, a fan of Batman and of Superman, especially in a cinematic sense. I don't enjoy all the previous films featuring these characters, but am enamoured with the wider mythology and what these icons represent regardless. And, well beyond that, I had a lot invested in Batman V Superman. It is, in no exaggerated terms, one of the most important movies in my time as a film journalist.

You see, for those of you new to the site or who simply haven't come across my previous articles, I haven't exactly been too positive about this film in the long, long wait for release. I did not enjoy the dour Man Of Steel, and everything about this film pointed towards it being more of the same, only with a forced attempt to expand the DC movie universe to be something to rival Marvel's (which, if I haven't already made a point of, it most certainly isn't).

I've written several pieces on the subject and, to put it mildly, some people didn't quite agree. Extensive blogs refuting my points were written, angry videos attacking me based on those opinions were filmed and Twitter debates raged.

I didn't really care, because this was my opinion and, like the review you're reading now, that's all anything I wrote ever purported to be. What's important was ultimately going into the movie itself with an open mind (which I most certainly did, to the point I was if anything excited).

So, after two-and-a-half years, we're here, and it's as bad as I feared and more. However, like the Alfred from a much better iteration of Batman, now that the day has arrived where I can say I told you so, I don't want to.

Oh, who am I kidding? I told you so.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is in cinemas from 25th March.
