3. How Does It Fit Into What We Know?
We don't know loads about the specifics of Luthor's role in Batman V Superman - he's clearly got a hand in the Senate trial of Superman, develops some form of control over the Kryptonian and is doing something with Zod's corpse - and what has been seen and heard could be interpreted in several different ways, but importantly very little of what we've seen clashes with this theory. There's obviously a lot of mystery being built around Eisenberg's take, and while it could just be to keep the general plot tight, there's certainly a lot that aids the whole Kryptonian twist idea (and several ways to disprove any "evidence" against this theory). Just look at his general ethos. One of the most interesting lines from the character, and the most open for alternate readings, is the "Devils don't come from hell beneath us. They come from the sky." The implication is that he's talking about Superman in a classic case of the villain thinking he's hero, but could he be making a grander, self-aware point about his own greater power, almost likening himself to a fallen angel? Given the sheer amount of Christ imagery in Man Of Steel, it's a contrast that would be right up Zack Snyder's street. Now we do see Luthor inspecting some Kryptonite in the trailer, suggesting he'll be using it to level the playing field with Superman, but that doesn't necessarily disprove the theory. Even if he is gifted with all the perks of a Kryptonian on Earth, keeping Superman down is still going to be a tricky job - the only way Supes could stop Zod, after all, was to snap his neck. If he wants to hold Superman physically without killing him, Kryptonite is the best way to do it. As for why it isn't affecting Luthor in the trailer shot, it appears to be in a sealed box, potentially keeping its influence at bay (remember, we don't know how the glowing green rock will actually work in the DCEU). But there's another, non-movie element that leans from being passive to actually hinting that it might be the case...
