Batman Vs Superman: 7 Key Details To Make Jeremy Irons The Definitive Alfred

1. A Friend In Need

Above all, Alfred is the one who knows Bruce Wayne better than anyone, often better than the man knows himself. He is the only one unfazed by the sight of the Dark Knight, the only one to come close to understanding why Batman exists at all. Sure, he helps out in the vendetta by mending Bruce's wounds and maintaining the Batcave and providing alibis and even fighting himself - but his most valuable asset is as a friend and father figure to his ward. If Jeremy Irons wants his Alfred to stand out as a memorable turn, he must realize that this is what Alfred is - while important, the other entries on this list don't necessarily have to be incorporated explicitly into the story of Batman vs. Superman. Again, we know so little about the film it's hard to assert that his physical prowess will play any role at all though. The point is that Alfred may have a very, very small role in the upcoming film, but even a brief glimpse at the butler will have to convey the Bruce-Alfred relationship dynamic, which ultimately is one of true friendship. This could be an extended theme, too, if Irons is indeed willing to play the role over multiple entries in the DC Cinematic Universe. Any solid friendship goes through ups and downs, obviously, and given Ben Affleck's age we'll be jumping into an already-established Batman. Maybe their friendship has already soured, and we'll witness their path to reconciliation? Regardless of what kind of a role Alfred is given for this film, Jeremy Irons has some shoes to fill. He's a fine actor, and he could be the man for the job - what do you think? Which other aspects of Alfred's character would you like to see him channel? Let us know in the comments section below.
