It seems like something of a requirement that Robin's must have either strained or no relationship with their parents. Dick Grayson's parents died, ditto Jason Todd's, ditto Tim Drake's (he had a father for a while, but he was killed by Captain Boomerang of all people), Stephanie Brown denounced her father after she discovered his villainous ways, Damien Wayne is Batman's son and was originally bred to kill his father. In fact, the only Robin to have something approaching a normal relationship with her folks is Carrie Kelly, though her parents are depicted as neglectful hippies, constantly high. If Jena Malone was to play Robin, it would be a case of life syncing up with art, as the actress legally emancipated herself from her mother the day before she turned 15, having only met her father once. Before the emancipation she had taken her mother to court to prevent her from getting either financially or professional involved with her life, even filing a restraining order at one point. Obviously, the aim of this entry isn't to trivialise what must have been great hardships during her childhood, but with all Robins having struggles with their family at such young ages, surely Malone would be able to relate, and perhaps use her past to add layers to such an iconic character. Whatever happens, should Malone step become the first Girl Wonder on the big screen, she will likely do it brilliantly.
