10. The Score
Easily the first thing to hit you in Man Of Steel is the masterfully-crafted music, from Hans Zimmer. What becomes apparent from the outset is that the Kryptonian power is represented by an infectious percussion. It bubbles beneath the action on-screen, rising louder, like a building wave, whenever danger does the same. It is paced fantastically to match a rising heartbeat, and then, out of nowhere, the low horns and serene chords of Clark's theme strike through the angry drums to calm precedings. It's a very literal representation of Superman saving the world. Surely the beautiful theme that circles Clark as he flies over the globe has to return, but it will be interesting to see what kind of music Batman is associated with, and whether they clash; the slow violins that play for Clark could harmonise with some altogether brasher instruments. Perhaps a full sweeping horn section for Affleck's character?
