Commissioner Gordon has come under the spotlight the last week or so, after the announcement that he would take center stage in the newly commissioned TV show Gotham, taking place during the early, pre-Bat years of the police force's finest. With that renewed focus on a hugely prominent part of Batman's supporting cast, it seems like a good time to look at the other potential opportunity for a new Commissioner Gordon; Batman vs. Superman. Coming off the back of the divisive Man of Steel, the sequel holds the promise of, at the very least, an appearance of both halves of the World's Finest, and a general assumption of the storyline is one loosely based around the concept of an ageing Bruce Wayne taking on his Justice League colleague, as seen in The Dark Knight Returns. That implies we could be seeing not just a new Batman in Ben Affleck, but a whole new Gotham, complete with its own citizens, villains and heroes. Of course, there's no guarantee that Commissioner Gordon will even have a prominent part to play in the story, and there's multiple directions that the film could go, but the great thing about Batman is that he's a character who can support multiple, diverse interpretations - each equally valid.
