Baywatch Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

2. The Gags Are Incredibly Hit-And-Miss

Unsurprisingly, the script is all over the place, resulting in a gag-rate that's incredibly inconsistent. There are laughs to be had, sure, but they're sandwiched between joke after joke that falls horrendously flat, reeking of first draft material that desperately needed another pass.

There's a clear effort made to copy the successful Jump Street formula, but it's not as smart or as weird as those movies, the tone is much more jumbled, and simply, the laugh count is depressingly low at times.

There are entire sections of this movie which pass without a joke because the film gets way too invested in its preposterous crime thriller plot, and it suffers tremendously as a result.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
