In The Original

In "Be Our Guest", Lumiere sings the line "ten years we've been rusting, needing so much more than dusting," confirming that the enchantment happened a decade before Belle came upon the castle.

But as the enchantment states that Beast has until his 21st birthday to break the curse, that means he was 11 when he was cursed. Which makes no sense, since there's a portrait of him as a young man.

In The Remake

To get around that particular plot-hole, the lyrics for the new version of "Be Our Guest" have been changed to include more vagueness. "10 years" has now become "too long we've been rusting."

And that problematic portrait that was clearly way too old in the original has also been replaced with one of him as a child...
