Beauty & The Beast Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Romance Feels A Little Rushed

Even though the film is ultimately overlong, there hasn't been much effort to fill that additional run-time with many interesting character-building scenes between Belle and the Beast.

Though one can argue the romance felt a bit forced in the animated version also, it feels much more apparent in the live-action medium where real people inhabit the world, and there aren't the same budget and logistical constraints tied to adding minutes to the run-time (especially in the age of 2D animation).

The bond between the two just feels too quick and convenient rather than believable and earned, which is all the more disappointing considering how damn long the movie is.

You'll probably go with it because the movie has such an epic sweep, but it could've been executed at least a little better.
