Benicio Del Toro: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5 Performances That Sucked...

5. Franky "Four-Fingers" - Snatch (2000)

Guy Ritchie's East End gangster films have really, really not aged very well. At the time - the late nineties - the mockney director's use of rhyming slang, actors with funny accents and obnoxious editing flourishes seemed like a breath of fresh air, and exciting and dangerous descendant of Tarantino's hyper-intelligent hyper-connected Pulp Fiction, with all of its own script and filmmaking quirks. Watching the likes of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...in 2014 is a somewhat less thrilling prospect. They're still fun, and they have their moments, but man are they products of their time. No more of a nineties curio could you hope to find than Snatch, Ritchie's follow up to his surprise hit debut. Lock, Stock caught the eyes of Hollywood, but our Guy was determined to stay in Landan, meaning he managed to hoodwink a bunch of genuine American talent to come spend some time in our grotty British Isles for a bit. We say a bit, Brad Pitt's turn as an Irish gypsy boxer amounts to about ten minutes of total screentime (all with a dodgy accent) and Benicio del Toro shows up for an even smaller part as professional thief and gambling addict Franky "Four-Fingers", who kick-starts the film's muddled plot and chews as much scenery as possible before getting bumped off.
