The Best Movie Of Each Year From 1925-2025

26. 2000 - O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Another Coen brothers corker, O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a testament to the duo's comedic wit and tonal versatility, and to the talents of its triumvirate of leads. George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson and John Turturro play runaway convicts during the Great Depression who by happenstance become bluegrass stars The Soggy Bottom Boys, which forces them to navigate the American South as fugitives and celebrities. It's a delicious irony the Coens savour in every scene, while the decision to root the visuals of the film in the sepia-toned newsreels of the era lends it an additional charm.

Truthfully, it's hard to be a Man of Constant Sorrow with movies like O Brother, Where Art Thou? in the frame.
