Bill Murray, last seen (or heard rather) putting in a paycheck performance for voicing
Garfield, has been hired for his next film according to
Variety. Murray will star in
City of Ember based on
Jeanne DuPrau's 2003 apolcayptic novel of the same name.
Gil Kenan's will direct what will be his second feature film after the motion-captured movie
Monster House.
Caroline Thompson wrote the script about an insular, dark place where the only light comes from street lamps. As the power source begins to fail, two teenagers search for clues that will unlock ancient mysteries about the city but they are thwarted by a corrupt mayor.
Toby Jones who was superb in
Infamous has also been hired. The book has some superb reviews over at
Amazon and the concept sounds interesting enough. I thought Monster House was really well told with what was a very loose story and script. Kenan made the best he could of it, and he should be congratulated for it. Filming begins in Belfast later this summer, with a release date of October 11 2008 penciled in for the Walden Media Production.
