Paxton's recent work has been nowhere near as memorable as the performances he delivered in his earlier days, and his role in The Colony is a fine example of this.

Perhaps it's because he plays an out-and-out villain (of sorts) and his character possesses few, if any, redeeming qualities. We're not used to seeing Paxton like this, and it felt rather jarring and unusual to watch him play against type to such a severe degree.

The material didn't exactly serve him well, with a predictable script and by-the-numbers execution, so it's hard to say if Paxton could have added another dimension to the character or not.

As it stands though, Mason is paper-thin, and the disgruntled expression he wears for much of the movie's runtime is probably indicative of how the actor felt when he saw the finished product.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
