Billy Connelly To Play Dain Ironfoot in The Hobbit

“We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself."

Despite being almost a year into production and still with plenty of time left to go in front of cameras (filming doesn't end until July time), Peter Jackson is still casting his two-part, 3D epic The Hobbit. Deadline say Scottish Comedian and actor Billy Connolly is set to play dwarf warrior Dain Ironfoot in the film, what we hear is the last role cast and probably this late in the day a character who mostly appears in The Hobbit: There And Back Again, the second part of the LOTR prequel saga. In J.R.R. Tolkien's work Ironfoot joins The Battle of the Five Armies at the request of his cousin, Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) but ironically he features a little bit more in The Lord of the Rings books than he does in The Hobbit. Is this Jackson further merging The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings together? €œWe could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself. With Billy stepping into this role, the cast of The Hobbit is now complete. We can€™t wait to see him on the Battlefield!€ The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is due for release December 14th.
