Bird Box Review: 4 Ups & 4 Downs
Ups...
4. Sandra Bullock & Trevante Rhodes' Strong Performances
Of all the many things to fault in this movie, you absolutely cannot lay any blame at Sandra Bullock's feet.
She does an absolutely splendid job here as a put-upon protagonist attempting to keep her family life from being ripped apart, and were the writing and directing up to her standard, she very well could've ended up in awards contention for her work.
Also stellar is Trevante Rhodes, who rebounds from his almost-nothing role in The Predator with a likeable and empathetic supporting part here as Malorie's new friend Tom.
Together they make an easy-to-root-for pairing, even if the film ultimately gives them far too many cliches to work through. Still, their chemistry sizzles and they give the most convincing, human performances in the whole movie.
