Birds Of Prey - 10 Reasons To Be Excited

Despite Suicide Squad actually having a really diverse cast of characters, most of them were either paper thin or barely lived through their introductions. Birds of Prey - like in many areas - looks to take the well-meaning and solid ideas of Suicide Squad and, you know, do it better.

The main girl gang of the film alone already represents Asian, African-American, Hispanic and Caucasian ethnicity, while Renee Montoya and her yet unnamed girlfriend (portrayed by Ali Wong) also provides much needed representation for the LGBTQ community.

This diversity is much needed in the growing landscape of a genre that continues to neglect those communities that have been pillars for the genre's survival.

In fact, Rosie Perez, who portrays Montoya, is also paving the way for actresses to be in these powerful action roles at an age that many studios abhorrently would consider to be 'too old'.
