Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs

Ups...

7. Fionn Whitehead's Terrific Performance

Black Mirror Bandersnatch Fionn Whitehead

Dunkirk's Fionn Whitehead stars as protagonist Stefan Butler, a 19-year-old computer programmer with dreams of adapting a cult fantasy novel, Bandersnatch, into a video game.

Whitehead is terrifically cast here as Stefan, proving instantly believable as an unsociable, mumbly young computer whizz with aspirations towards a career in the gaming industry.

Whether working through an awkward chat with his father or having one of his many possible freakouts, Whitehead does a stand-up job as both quietly contemplative and explosively angry.

Given the unique nature of the role and the difficulty of keeping in character with the various story paths, he effortlessly rises to the challenge.

Casting has of course always been one of Black Mirror's strong suits, and despite the film's flaws, Whitehead is perfectly cast as Stefan.
