In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 we had the trash panda nod and now Black Panther features Shuri reusing the "what are those" meme that was "created" in 2011 but came to prominence because of this video in 2015...

She shouts it in response to T'Challa wearing sandals to his first official appearance as king, much to her amusement. A signfiicant number of Wakanda's residents don't actually wear shoes, so it's not a completely out of place reaction, even if it's a tiny bit jarring.
