When T'Chaka visits N'Jobu's apartment and we discover his brother's betrayal, the king sends a couple of his personal Dora Milaje to check they have the right residence. They knock insistently and "James" (actually Zuri undercover) says there's a pair of "Grace Jones-looking" women at the door.
It's a funny little nod as you could be forgiven for thinking that the group were based on the 80s icon - particularly in Okoye's stone cold persona. It's very much a case of playfully acknolwedging the elephant in the room.
In reality, the Dora Milaje are based on several different influences, according to the Black Panther’s costume designer Ruth Carter, including Yoruba Diviners, the Maasai people and the Samburu tribe.
