Some interesting changes were nevertheless made to Namor's presentation compared to the comics, namely altering his land of origin from the underwater city of Atlantis to the Mesoamerican-inspired land of Talokan.

As such, the Talokanil speak Yucatec Maya and basically every aspect of their civilisation is inspired by indigenous South American civilisations.

To comic book purists it might prove to be a controversial change, yet for less precious viewers it's ultimately an inspired remix which ensures the story isn't simply raking over the same depictions of Atlantis we've seen in media - namely, the DCEU as of late - many times over the years.

Additionally, it grants a welcome sliver of representation to a culture that's rarely depicted on screen - and especially not in major Hollywood blockbusters. A surprising change, but a welcome one for sure.
