Black Widow: 10 Huge Questions We Still Have
6. What Is Thaddeus Ross' Role?
With the movie set between the events of Civil War and Infinity War, it makes sense that Thaddeus Ross will appear. The Secretary of State was a key factor in the establishment of the Sokovia Accords, and was actively hunting down those Avengers on the run even during Infinity War.
However, this is about the only thing that currently makes sense about Ross' appearance in Black Widow. Firstly, his voice over in the trailer seems to be talking to Natasha in the way a friend would, rather than an enemy. Based on what happened at the end of Civil War, Ross would certainly not class Natasha among his friends, so what gives?
Then there is the character's physical appearance. From the trailers and leaked set photos we have seen Thaddeus Ross looking very obviously digitally de-aged, and we have also seen him looking older and weaker than ever. Does this mean we can expect to see some time jumps in Black Widow, both forward and back?
It's no stretch to think that Ross may have met Widow in the past, but in terms of the older version of the character, he looks a lot more aged than even in Endgame after the five year time gap. The most obvious explanation is a time jump even further forward than Endgame, but what could we see Ross doing in the future?
