Black Widow: 21 WTF Moments

Though the film makes passing mention of Natasha's biological mother, she's ultimately a surprisingly small part of the narrative equation, even with the not remotely surprising revelation that, of course, she was killed by Dreykov.

Melina reveals that there was some sort of monetary deal to secure Nat from her real parents, but that because her mother was doggedly determined to get Nat back and therefore threatened the secretive existence of the Red Room, Dreykov had her murdered.

"The villain killed your parent" is Disney 101 storytelling, frankly, and felt more like a desperate attempt to make the tepid Dreykov into a more meaningful antagonist. No dice, unfortunately.
