Black Widow: 21 WTF Moments
The most insane moments from the MCU's first movie in two whole years.
It may have arrived at least a few years too late, but the Black Widow solo movie is finally here, and the critical consensus so far is that it's pretty good - if hardly a top-tier outing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Whether you were thoroughly entertained by the movie or found it a case of "too little, too late," Black Widow sure doesn't leave audiences wanting for WTF moments.
From an unforgettable opening credits sequence through to a certain strange Easter egg, some completely insane plot points, nutty twists, and everything in-between, this is certainly a film that crams a lot of weirdness into its 134-minute runtime.
While hardly the most adventurous or meaningful movie for the MCU moving forward, it is a barmy collision of James Bond, Mission: Impossible, and Jason Bourne, and to that end delivers a deliriously bonkers time.
The biggest WTF moment of all, though, must surely be that it took Kevin Feige and company over a decade to give Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) her own movie, several years after she actually perished no less.
That aside, it's time to soak in the most bizarre, hilarious, and shocking moments from Black Widow...
21. The Opening Credits Drop A MAJOR Spoiler
The film begins with a flashback to Natasha and Yelena's youth, which then transitions into a stylised opening credits sequence that details how they were brought to the Red Room, set to an amusingly depressing cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
It's a terrific sequence, albeit one which bafflingly leaves a spoiler hiding in plain sight, by dropping Olga Kurylenko's name in the cast list.
Given that Kurylenko having a role in the film was kept relatively quiet during production and she wasn't featured in any of the trailers, this made it incredibly easy to figure out that she would end up playing Taskmaster.
Considering how ingeniously Marvel Studios has misled fans in the past, it's pretty disappointing that they didn't just have Kurylenko go uncredited, because the second her name showed up in the credits, the suspense over Taskmaster's identity was obliterated for observant viewers.
