Black Widow Movie: 10 Comic Book Storylines Marvel Must Adapt
9. The Coldest War
Marvel would be taking some timeline liberties with this one, but who doesn’t love a good Cold War spy thriller with the added spice of superhuman abilities?
From the creative team of Gerry Conway and George Freeman, 1990’s Black Widow: The Coldest War is all of the above and more.
The story arc acquaints us with a more human Agent Romanov, who is blackmailed into compromising her moral code in exchange for the life of her husband, who she thought was long dead - which isn’t too much of a stretch when a standard day’s work involves shooting people in the face or choking them in a leg hold.
Interestingly, the story also delves into how Natasha and Nick Fury dealt with the fallout from the Cold War, which gives Marvel the perfect excuse to coax Samuel L Jackson into donning the eyepatch once again.
Then again, the MCU Romanov’s status as a modern day hero means the studio may have to play fast and loose with when the Cold War actually occurred.
