The first Blade Runner is closely tied to its future LA - the very first image is an establishing shot of a green-hued, smog-infused, fire-belching city of night, a Los Angeles that's expanded vastly outwards and built its structures of industry high into the soupy sky. Considering Deckard and Rachael took off at the end of the film and ran (in the original cut, they escaped to the country), it's possible that LA may not be the setting this time, or at least not solely anyway. Another question yet to be answered is when the film will be set, beyond the "several decades after" that was mentioned in the press release today. Blade Runner was set in 2019, and seeing as Ford has again been cast to star, it can be assumed that time will have lapsed within the Blade Runner world to account for the 33 years that have lapsed in our own. Does that mean Blade Runner will present the future world of 2042? Or will it take some artistic licence when it comes to Ford's real age and go even further?
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
