After a 35-year wait, Blade Runner's much-anticipated sequel is finally out in the wild, and though it's been rapturously received by critics and fans alike so far, the question remains: is it actually better than the original?

It's proving to be an incredibly divisive question already, with some fans deeming Blade Runner 2049 incapable of matching the original's entrancing power, while others who see more flaws in Ridley Scott's 1982 movie might favour Denis Villeneuve's different approach in the new film.

Whatever your own opinion, they're both fantastic movies, but only one can be the definitive Blade Runner movie, and so it's time to compare the two projects in every major facet of their conception, from the direction and acting through to the cinematography, musical score and so on.

Does Scott's cyberpunk masterpiece endure as an unflappable classic, or has Villeneuve done the impossible and somehow outdone one of the best-loved sci-fi films of all time? It's time to find out...
