Blade Runner Vs. Blade Runner 2049: Which One Is Better?

11. The Protagonist

Blade Runner Ryan Gosling Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford's Deckard is one of the most iconic protagonists in the history of cinema, a classic film noir detective roughed up and hurled into the future. Ford is, of course, terrific in the part, from the mere look of the character to his rather ambiguous nature and, yes, that nagging mystery regarding his true identity.

Ryan Gosling's K could so easily have been nothing more than a lazy Deckard rehash, but thankfully that's not the case at all. K is arguably better-developed than Deckard with a more detailed backstory and the film's greater focus on him as a "person", while Gosling gives one of his very best performances in the role.

Winner: Again, not an easy choice, but Ford's Deckard isn't easily topped, and considering how iconic a character he is, and how K is certainly indebted to him in more than a few ways, he has to take the win here. It's close, though.
