Blade Runner Vs. Blade Runner 2049: Which One Is Better?

5. Pacing

Though the 1982 film clocks in at just 117 minutes, you might feel like it's much longer than that due to Scott's deliberate, "slow" pacing. He's in no rush to tell his story, and while this does result in a few dips of interest, for the most part it helps build up the movie's atmosphere and allows audiences to soak in the world.

2049 follows in its stead, but brings with it the baggage of a 163-minute runtime, which has been one of the film's most complained-about elements. There are a number of scenes in the middle of the movie which arguably drag on longer than they need to, though for the most part it sustains such a long time incredibly well.

Winner: Though they both have their indulgences that could be trimmed down a little, 1982 is certainly less of a slog overall.
