Blade: Wesley Snipes Discussing Multiple Movie Projects With Marvel
Could the Daywalker FINALLY be heading to the MCU?
Almost thirteen years since Blade Trinity disappointingly capped off Wesley Snipes' signature comic book movie series, it now looks as though Blade could once again be returning to the big screen - in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This is according to the actor himself, who disclosed in a conversation with Vice that he, along with his team and Marvel, have been "discussing [potential Blade Reboots] for the past two years." According to Snipes, he's optioned two concepts to the House of Ideas and their Mousey parent company, stating:
"We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world and, when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most... Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so…"
News of Marvel's resurgent interest in the Blade IP is sure to be encouraging for fans of the original Blade series. Others have noted how the MCU is lacking a genuine supernatural presence too, and though the franchise's newfound cosmic focus has proven to be refreshing, ensuring that all aspects of the Marvel Universe are represented will only make for a stronger series.
But what of the prospect of the character being rebooted with a different actor? Well, Snipes had a lot to say on the matter, and it appears as though he's reluctant to let go of the vampire hunter just yet:
"There’s a lot of pieces that have to come together. I mean wow. Who’s that guy? And one that can overcome everybody’s preconceived idea of who Blade is supposed to be. Skill wise, there’s not a lot of guys out there that dance, that do the martial arts, that act well and can have that Blade flavor."
So there you have it! Marvel Studios are keen to revive Blade and Snipes himself is taking a lead in the discussions to make it happen. We can only imagine what these two projects will be - whether it'll focus on the old Blade, or a potential new one - but for now, all Marvel fans can do is sit, wait, and hope more information comes soon.
