Brad Pitt: 5 More Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
4. Westray - The Counselor
The idea of Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Cormac McCarthy teaming up with director Ridley Scott sounded like a winning prospect for many people. Sure, Scott's movies haven't been quite up to his earlier standards in recent years, but often that's been more on account of the caliber of his material rather than any technical shortcomings. To say that The Counselor turned out to be a disappointment would be a huge understatement - overlong, wrought with illogical characters and confusing streams of dialogue which were equally silly and pretentious, it was a bit of a mess to say the least. Brad Pitt plays a relatively small role in the film as the middleman and friend of drug dealer Reiner (Javier Bardem), and seems as if he's almost sleepwalking the role from one scene to the next. It sometimes approaches a near-parody of his cool persona, and feels inauthentic because of it. Still - spoiler alert - at least he gets one of the most inventive assassination methods seen on film, as a painful-looking contracting metal wire referred to in the film as a "bolita" proceeds to sever his head after taking off a few fingers first.
