Brad Pitt, Jeremy Renner & Javier Bardem Circling Ridley Scott's The Counselor

Heavyweight trio battling to star opposite Michael Fassbender in Ridley Scott's low-budget thriller that shoots in May.

Not content with already having one of the best ensembles of the year with Prometheus, Ridley Scott now has a line up of A-Listers virtually lining up and begging not to be the last kid standing, to choose from for his next project "The Counselor". Deadline reports that Brad Pitt, new Bourne and Avenger Jeremy Renner and Javier Bardem are all eyeing the same role in the Scott directed, Cormac McCarthy penned 70's style low-budget thriller about a lawyer played by Michael Fassbender who €œnaively gets involved with the drug trade€. According to some sources the character they are circling is that of Reiner, who features into another narrative strand of the story involving the lawyer's girlfriend but The Playlist won€™t reveal any more without going into spoiler territory. Fine by me. Filming is supposed to kick off in May just weeks before Prometheus is in theaters. Though the participation of this trio all of course depends on those annoying scheduling conflicts that always seem to crop up, but depending on who lands the role they will be delivering dialogue and appearing in front of the camera from two of the most talented men in their craft. The film is barely into pre-production and so far it€™s already looking like one of the must see films of the next couple of years. Not bad for a first screenplay is it, Mr. McCarthy? Of course Fassbender will be reuniting with his Hunger and Shame director, Steve McQueen, for Twelve Years a Slave due to shoot this summer along with the aforementioned Pitt. Might they end up teaming up before that one is a go?
