Brad Pitt wants to catch him some Nazi's again with INGLOURIOUS II?
Harvey Weinstein has been talking to GQ Style magazine about the truth behind the much discussed butchering of the Cannes version of Inglourious Basterds, how the project went from being a Band of Brothers HBO series into an epic motion picture, and also lets slip that Brad Pitt wants to do an Inglourious II, a project Quentin Tarantino has previously mentioned could be a prequel. You know, it's the one he said he had "half-written" about African-American soldiers which were previously part of Inglourious Basterds before he cut characters and sub-plots to get it down to a manageable length. First on the follow-up, which is barely anything really except...
Brad wants to do Inglorious II. We all want to do it. And the movie hasnt even come out yet! But unfortunately I cannot give away the plot.Guess it depends on how the movie performs in just under two months time. Many analysts have already predicted that the movie is crucial to the future survival of the Weinstein company and whichever way the pendulum swings with audiences is pretty much going to decide whether the company has a future or not. Tarantino has let them down before with Grindhouse (or was it that the U.S. audience let him down?), it'll sure be interesting to see if lightening strikes twice again here. One message that Harvey Weinstein is adamant to get across is that if the movie fails, it'll be on Quentin's hands and not because Harvey or Bob has cut the film the way he wants too. Recent reports (specifically from The Wrap) claimed that The Weinsteins wanted to cut forty minutes out of the piece after the screenings mostly negative reaction in Cannes. Harvey says;
Those stories are all untrue. Theres no fucking way. Here, read my lips: That is nuts. Please dont even write that, its insanity. Theres not even a question of that. Whatever youre reading, its like some insane blogger Theres no truth to any of this. Hes not gonna cut. What hes doing is just reorganizing some scenes. I mean, the guy had six weeks to cut his movie ; most guys take six months. Most guys take a year. When I worked with Martin , wed do eighteen months in post-production. Quentin Tarantino cuts a movie in six weeks? Come on, theres shit on that cutting-room floor thatll blow your brains out. I was telling Quentin the opposite"You should put that shit back in the movie." Theres scenes with Brad Pitt and the Basterds, and Im praying he puts that shit back in, cause its un-fucking-believably great. Listenthis movie will be between two hours and twenty minutes and two hours and twenty-seven minutes. I dont think its going to be shorterits just a question of rearranging. I know hes putting footage back into the movie. I know hes got some cool shit that he didnt get time to address.Weinstein also spoke of the Band of Brothers esque HBO-style saga which Tarantino had planned to be the Inglourious Basterds showcase...
We werent even gonna do it as a movie! We were gonna do this as, like, 16 hours for Showtime or HBO. He had so much stuff mapped out, we could have done like 3 movies. It was justepic. We could do two movies, three movies. I was begging for the movies, but Quentin wanted to do the TV series, Bob wanted to do the TV series, so it was like two against one, you know? And I was getting outvoted all over the place, so I just figured, All right, forget it, Im not gonna be a loser, Ill jump to the winning side." And then Quentin turns it into one movie. Go figure.Inglourious Basterds opens in the U.K. and U.S. on August 21st
