Bratz director given reigns to Robosapien

v.jpgBack in March, we reported that former Marvel head-honcho Avi Arad was producing a feature movie based on the Robosapien toy that kids were crazy over one Christmas. The news today from Variety is that producer Steven Paul (of Crystal Sky Pictures) will work with Arad on the movie, just like the pair did on the upcoming film based on the Bratz toys. Also like the Bratz film, Steve McNamara will be directing. The movie will begin shooting this November on budget of around $25-30 million and will blend together live action and CGI.
The story concerns a scientist working on artificial intelligence who creates robots for humanitarian purposes, only to discover that the corporation he works for intends them for military use. He steals one of his creations, a robot boy named Toby, who, by a series of accidents, gets lost and broken, and then found and fixed by the lonely 11-year-old son of a harassed single mother. The robot and boy become friends, and embark on a series of adventures, pursued by the authorities, climaxing with them having to rescue the scientist and the mother from prison.
Arad has described the movie as being a new take on the Pinocchio legend. Well what can you say? A bad idea for a film gets even worse with the addition of a bad director. There's no hope for this one. source - film ick
