Brendan Fraser's 10 Greatest Performances
7. Looney Tunes: Back In Action
Looney Tunes: Back in Action was certainly not beloved upon release. It was meant to be the film that would introduce a whole new generation of fans to the Looney Tunes but it wound up flopping at the box office and getting eaten alive by the critics of the time.
But I'll say it; Looney Tunes: Back in Action is fun. It's goofy, has some truly inspired gags, is a complete mess in the third act, has some egregious editing, and makes some very questionable choices along the way, but one would be hard-pressed to not at least find the strange, lovable conglomeration not at least a little entertaining. And a huge part of that is thanks to the sheer joy of Brendan Fraser's performance.
Seeing him get to act opposite of the Looney Tunes is just so perfect. His genuine sincerity sells the idea that he's there, tangibly interacting with these animated characters more than any amount of effects work ever could have. He also gets to make fun of himself here in a really inspired way, as his character is actually Brendan Fraser's stunt double, allowing him to spend a great deal of the film parodying his own public image.
This all culminates in the final moments, which sees his character meet the 'real' Brendan Fraser, a pompously dolled-up version of Fraser, and sucker punch him. This moment has been specifically pointed to by Fraser himself as one of his favorite moments in all of his acting career and its easy to see why; he's great in it.
