Brian Blessed cast as Odin for THOR!!!

"Matt Holmes is ALIVE!" (sorry for my absence, but I assure you I have been working. Well mostly). blessed-thor Oh, I wish I could have Brian Blessed as the voice-over for Obsessed With Film stories, what a man. What a legend. Not only is he my favourite t.v. personality who I wouldn't mind having as a dinner guest, but he is also part of my favourite ever DVD commentary track (Flash Gordon). Now Brian has been rather quiet from major Hollywood films lately (he was briefly in Alexander) but then, we haven't had an epic movie by the scale of Thor to accomodate his greatness. Shakespearean director Kenneth Branaghhas cast him for the Marvel adaptation where he will play Odin, the father of our titular character. No surprise really, Branagh has used Blessed a handful of times and even without that connection, he was always a popular choice among fanboys. Chris Hemsworth, the Home & Away actor who played George Kirk in Star Trek will play Thor... Tom Hiddleston who had a part in Branagh's Wallander is Loki. The story comes from Bleeding Cool which is a few days old comics blog but we are told by Brendon Connelly at /film to trust it as a source, so I have no problem in doing just that. I'm still unsure about this production, mainly because Branagh's quality is so wild and varied from film to film and that he simply isn't the man I was wanting to make this picture (Matthew Vaughn), but that aside I'm as happy as anyone that Marvel are making a Thor movie. I never did think we would see the day.
