Brian Grazer Confirms 24 Movie On Track For 2012 Release

The following will take place between January 2012 and December 2012. Mega-producer Brian Grazer (who seems to be most known these days for attaching himself to every movie ever made) recently confirmed in a tweet that the long rumored film adaptation of Fox's mega successful 24 series is still set for a 2012 release;
€˜Got off the phone Kiefer yesterday and we are very excited about producing the 24 movie for next year,€™
24 was canceled a year ago after lasting eight seasons (or eight days rather). Grazer and Ron Howard€™s company, Imagine Entertainment, produced the show and have long seen a film adaptation as been the natural progression of the Jack Bauer character. The last we heard about this project was last month when Kiefer Sutherland gabbed it up with the girls on the View also claiming the movie will hit 2012. Action maestro Tony Scott who last directed the runaway train movie Unstoppable has been in talks to helm and seems to be excited about where he could take the Bauer character. I know huge fans of the show have been clamoring for this, but keep in mind there was a script written by Billy Ray (State of Play) that was rejected by Fox and to date no replacement has been hired. Sutherland still expressed much enthusiasm on the project to EW earlier this year back in January:
€˜Billy did a fantastic job and there are aspects of that story €I couldn€™t be more thrilled.€™
Little else is known about the 24 movie in terms of story, although my money is on it involving terrorists and Jack Bauer shooting people. A movie seems to make sense in terms of giving the property the budget it requires, although it does defeat the purpose of the unique €™24 hour€™ premise. Odds are we won€™t see a twenty-four hour movie, but will a two hour film cover the span of twenty-four hours? We€™ll find out as I€™m sure Fox is banking on the hardcore fan base to come out in droves for this. Story written by news trialist Daniel Cohen
