Bright Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

4. Noomi Rapace & Edgar Ramirez Are Totally Wasted

Bright Noomi Rapace
Netflix

Bright benefits from a terrific ensemble cast...that it does absolutely nothing with. Especially given the short shrift is Noomi Rapace, who plays the dark elf Leilah, yet barely any glimpse is given into her motivations or reasoning beyond "she's evil, just because".

Apart from a few fun action beats, she deserves so much better. Then there's the talented Edgar Ramirez, who appears as an FBI elf named Kandomere, but apart from getting to wear a snazzy-looking suit, he gets almost nothing to do.

That's without even mentioning Suicide Squad's Jay Hernandez, who briefly appears as one of Will Smith's cop pals, but again, there's nothing to his character so it's easy to forget he's even in it.

In fact, of the film's supporting cast, the only actor used even remotely well is Ike Barinholtz, who just as he did in Suicide Squad, plays a skeezy scumbag cop to mildly entertaining effect.
