4. Korben Dallas - The Fifth Element (1997)
The Fifth Element is a terrific film that works successfully in a multitude of genres: sci-fi, action, and even comedy. It's a tough tone to get right, and it's one that Willis manages to nail as Korben Dallas, a futuristic cab driver. Willis is essentially playing his usual action hero self here, but he does it was a unique self-awareness that makes the performance all the better. He also has great chemistry with his co-star, Milla Jovovich. She plays Leeloo, a sort of artificially created woman, and Willis is forced to serve as her rock in what is essentially a fish-out-of-water comedy. Willis sells Luc Besson's futuristic landscape world to us whilst still managing to flex his action chops. Good show.
