16. 28 Months Later
28 Weeks Later concluded with quite the wild setup for a third film, with the infected shown to have made it to Paris, confirming beyond any doubt that the Rage virus found its way out of the United Kingdom.
However, shortly after the release of 28 Weeks Later, Danny Boyle revealed that he had entirely different plans for intended follow-up 28 Months Later, which wouldn't take place in France at all.
Rather, Boyle revealed that his sequel would take place in Russia, seemingly confirming how far the Rage virus had spread across the globe.
However, the film was never produced due to both Boyle and Garland's creative struggles to crack the script and scheduling issues per their increasingly busy workloads.
A third film, 28 Years Later, was finally released in 2025 and ditched both the potential Russian and French settings, basically retconning the end of 28 Weeks Later by revealing in its opening title card that French forces drove the virus back into the British Isles.
In the very least, the threequel we got was plenty insane in its own right...
