20 INSANE Horror Sequels We Almost Got
15. Brightburn 2
The James Gunn-produced superhero horror film Brightburn posited a fascinating provocation - what if Superman used his powers for evil?
Superpowered extraterrestrial Brandon Breyer (Jackson A. Dunn) finds himself drawn to the dark side by a hypnotic message from his spaceship which implores him to conquer the world.
But rather than resist this urge as one might expect, Brandon succumbs to the ship's influence, killing both of his foster parents and destroying an airplane, murdering hundreds.
In the movie's end credits, we see that Brandon is now embarking on a global rampage, all while conspiracy theorists discuss the apparent emergence of other super-powered individuals, including a half-man, half-sea creature, a witchy woman, and an alien-looking entity.
The obvious implication from all this is that Brightburn 2 would focus on Brandon forming an Evil Justice League - basically the grim inverse of what you'd expect a Superman sequel to do.
Though the film was a modest commercial success, Gunn revealed back in 2024 that a sequel was "unlikely" due to complicated rights issues, with Gunn himself only owning half the IP.
While Brightburn was relatively polarising, it goes without saying that a sequel focused on a team of seemingly unstoppable supervillains treating the world like their own deranged sandbox would've been absolutely wild.
