Candyman Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
2. Robert A. A. Lowe's AWESOME Musical Score
One of the film's low-key highlights is a scintillating musical score from experimental musician Robert A. A. Lowe (Lichens).
Far away from the brass-and-strings typicality of most horror movie scores, Candyman's places a strong emphasis on electronic beats and haunting, sweeping soundscapes, serving as the perfect mood-setter for what we're seeing.
One synth-based leitmotif used several times during the film is especially effective in creating an off-key vibe that pervades throughout the entire runtime.
Can we get more horror films employing left-field composers like this to create truly original scores, please?
