Candyman Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

5. It Feels Incredibly Rushed

While it feels like movies are just getting longer and more bloated with each passing year, Candyman is a rare example of an enticing project that feels like it sprints to the finish line far too quickly.

At just 91 minutes in length - including not only the end credits but also an opening titles sequence - Candyman feels like it tries to cram way too much into its brief runtime.

Though it seems incredibly unlikely this was a studio-mandated decision with Jordan Peele involved, it's painfully clear throughout that so many scenes needed more time to breathe.

This is especially true in the wonky third act, which races through the various reveals and payoffs so fast that the audience isn't really allowed to savour any of it.
