Captain America 2 Ending: 11 Big Implications For Marvel Phase 3

1. Crossbones Will Appear & Captain American Will Die

As the smoke and rubble clears in the wake of the helicarrier crashes, including the ridiculous sequence in which Falcon outruns gravity and a raining torrent of hellfire and twisted metal to emerge unscathed, paramedics pull the badly burnt, barely recognisable body of Brock Rumlow to safety. Despite his injuries he's alive, and presumably burning with rage and an irresistible urge to reap vengeance on the good guys who turned him into crispy fried bad guy. So What Next? That fact that Crossbones survived cannot have been accidental. He is the man responsible for killing Captain America in the comic book universe and you have to suspect that just as the Avengers main arc is heading ultimately towards Civil War (or at least some form of it) Captain's own thread is heading towards the moment when Steve Rogers is killed, and Bucky takes over the Shield and costume from him. Chris Evans isn't likely to stick around forever - by his own admission, he will take a break once his Marvel contract runs out (after six films) - which suggests that he will bow out after Captain America 3. The best way to give him a break would be to kill him, replace him with Bucky as Captain America, and then revive him after a couple of movies, as happened in the comic book world.
