Just what are Marvel planning with Tony Stark?

The internet has been abuzz for the last week since it was announced that Robert Downey, Jr. had signed on for Captain America 3. Most people thought that, following Avengers: Age of Ultron next year, Downey, Jr.'s only remaining appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be in the third Avengers movie in 2018. Then, an interview with Ellen DeGeneres revealed that he was in negotiations with Marvel - with suggestions that they could merely be over a potential fourth Iron Man movie - but it was later announced that he would actually be appearing in Captain America 3 in 2016. It's extremely exciting news, as it's the first time one of the really big titular heroes will be appearing in a movie that isn't their own or an Avengers ensemble and it will surely enable Captain America 3 to bring in a hell of a lot more money at the box office than it otherwise would have. Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is being released around the same time as this movie and the Marvel offering will now be the favourite to perform best both critically in financially. Downey, Jr.'s inclusion does, however, raise a hell of a lot of questions about the movie and that's what we're going to be looking at here.
