Only a couple of days ago, it looked like we'd all have to wait until Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out to enjoy our first Civil War fluffer. Like chaste, thirsty teenagers, all we'd had so far is frustrating teases and flirtations, but with Marvel's surprising early debut of the first trailer, it's fair to say we've all gone well beyond first base with Marvel's epic battle movie. Because the Russos have consciously embraced the Marvel trend of hinting as much as possible in promotional material without letting too much out, the trailer yields a lot more on repeated viewings than its first breath-taking run through. There are blink-and-you'll-miss-them cameos, MAJOR narrative beats and irresistible nods to how the film is going to roll out. And of course - because the US Extras Union is clearly full of terrible actors - there are even a couple of background artists who really should have done their job better...
12. The Importance Of The UN
Thanks to the brief appearance of the UN emblem on the lectern, it's clear that the explosion that is seemingly being pinned on Bucky (at least in the editing of the trailer - it might not be that simple) is at a key UN meeting. The fact that their insignia also appears on the front of the Sokovia Accords confirms that it is they who draw up the legislation to regulate superhero intervention. Could this be the event that inspires the Accords finally? Could this be where T'Challa's father is killed (and the reason he's after Bucky so fiercely)? Or could this be a false flag operation designed to look like vengeance by Captain America's team for the Accords and Bucky to drive them further underground? No matter what importance this explosion represents, perhaps the Russos should have been a little more diligent in their quest to find good Extras, because this woman looks far too delighted to be running away from peril. And this guy just flat out stares into the camera in his creepy/cool shades as he strolls slowly by, having already ran past the screen once already... If I had to guess, I'd say he probably did the exploding.
