Captain America: Civil War - 16 Things We Learned From The Directors' Commentary

10. Black Panther Almost Didn't Feature

Though T'Challa was always going to be part of the plot - and the death of his father an important moment - the writing team surprisingly weren’t entirely sure if his alter-ego Black Panther would appear. So we almost didn't get the epic chase through traffic, or the first glimpses at his exceptional Cat-Fu fighting style.

That would have been a mistake.

It's also revealed that Chadwick Boseman's costume was actually painted over fully with CGI. The ILM team rightly deserve the masses of credit lavished on them by the Russos in the commentary, because it's entirely seamless. The shimmer in the material looks organic, which is some going.

The Russos also talk at the end about not wanting to step on Ryan Coogler's toes for Black Panther: they didn't want to spoil too much of Wakanda, because it would be taking away one of his major reveals.
